Running a Discord community: moderation basics

Clear rules, a small trusted team and a few good bots go a long way. Here is the moderation setup we recommend for new communities.

Start with what you want

Before you browse, decide what matters most: the size of the community, the platforms you play on, your region and language, and how much time you can commit. Filters on every game page let you narrow the list quickly.

The best communities are clear about who they are for.

Look at how the community runs

Read the rules, check how active the staff are and look for regular events. A good listing tells you all of this up front, along with an invite link so you can take a look before committing.

  • Clear, short rules that are actually enforced
  • A staff team you can reach
  • Events or activity at times that suit you

Give it a week

Join, say hello and play a few sessions. If it does not feel right, there are plenty of other communities listed on VG Communities.
